Filip Claes, vegetable

Project presentation and Eve Filip Claes-Sauteron

For
history ... After 4 years working as head of a producers' cooperative bio Belgium, Filip decided in 2001 to turn to the actual production of organic vegetables. Two years of training and internships in Belgium, and then a three-month internship at Cluny, Burgundy, Domaine Saint-Laurent.
And, yes, that is inhabited
Eve ... Three months later back in Belgium for the preparation of a draft gardening. It is June 2003, and we welcome friends on their farm in Rochefort (between Namur and Luxembourg).
On April 1, 2004 is officially installed as organic gardeners on 75 acres in open fields, with a greenhouse of 300 m² and with a few berries. Is first and after a few least two markets in Brussels (110 km from the farm). But
early 2006 the boys tell us they need their land ...
And the search begins. First around the house they had bought, but nothing available. Then around Brussels and Flanders, but too close to big cities and too expensive (30 to 50 000 euro per hectare, no buildings, no water, no electricity!).
And then, by chance, and also by Internet Magazine and Village, we came across this little village Creusois just saved from a nasty barrage. It was love at heart in late 2006, and our project is selected.
2007 was a crazy year, with markets in Brussels that explode, and each month a return trip in the Creuse. But we knew why!
late 2007, the contracts are awarded to two friends who join and want to ensure continuity for customers in markets.
In February 2008, the family arrives, after the trucks have filed all the furniture, boxes, and farm equipment. We start with the physical home (which should become a cottage in a few years), and the renovation of our future house next door.
And luckily, the reception by fellow gardeners in Limousin and Auvergne is really warm.
remains to put the tool in place: develop the buildings, water, electricity, greenhouses, land preparation, planting trees, order seeds.

the future ... and we bought five acres of cultivable land (+ half a hectare of wetland), which we have already planted three hectares of cereals (mixture for laying hens), and planted a fruit tree quarantine (old local varieties of apples, pears, plums, quinces, cherries, walnuts), hundreds of gooseberries, raspberries and a hundred.
It leaves us instead to make a good ha of vegetables in open fields, and build 4 tunnels (ca 1200 m² in total).
Our passion alongside basic vegetables, produce a wide range of tastes with old varieties of familiar vegetables (tomato, cucumber, ...) and vegetables less known (New Zealand spinach, parsnips, ...). Accompanied by revenue, it will allow you to enjoy throughout the year.
Second part of the project is the development of 3 acres, currently in cereals. The idea - still under study - is to divide the parcel with six rows of fruit trees, to create six small plots about 40 acre. A small workshop in laying hens on the six plots allow you to provide eggs from the fall, but also to have a little manure for crops. Other plots can be used for cereal production - it is the baker? - Lentils, chick peas, vegetable storage, and oilseeds (to roll the tractor? Another project under study.).
Our great concern is the improvement of land, and maintaining long-term fertility. We are still searching for sustainable solutions, but a first step will be a project on the RCW (RCW Fragment). Certainly we'll talk when you first visit to the farm.
All that to say that we have much work, that is absolutely no shortage of projects, and we especially want to build a great place that is pleasant to live and work, and where they can produce quality food. After all, we love to cook and eat it too ...

you soon!
